Is that right?  For our fast diet to succeed and we cut down on calories will we lose weight??  Well, you may do for while but your efforts will soon come to a shuddering halt!

Have you noticed that you cut down on your food intake and your fast diet takes off…  Wow!  This is great you think…

But then it all seems to go wrong…  The weight loss stops, or certainly slows down a great deal…  How many people say, ‘I can’t diet.  I’ve tried them all but diets don’t work for me…  I’m just made to be fat…’.

Are these people right in what they say?  Well, yes and no – but mainly no…

Unfortunately much of the advice given that you’re led to believe will help your fast diet success is completely wrong.

Cut calories, you’re told…  So you do…

Make starchy carbs the centre of your diet plan…  Ok, I’ll do that, you think…

Buy low fat products and avoid fatty foods like meat and dairy products like the plague…  Yes, I can manage that one too…

So, off you go with your shopping list to buy all these foods that you’ve been told will have you resembling a thin person in no time at all…

But then it doesn’t work, you’re hungry, disillusioned and in the end you’re thinking, ‘Sod it, I can’t do it, I’m destined to be fat…’

So, what’s wrong with the advice?    Loads, that’s what…  Let’s look at it…

You’ve cut your calories and what happens?  Your body responds as you want it to at first and you see some weight loss.  But then your body slows right down because you’ve instructed it to go into starvation mode.

This leads to the second piece of advice – make carbs the centre of your diet…  No, you shouldn’t.  If you’re going to cut down on calories it’s the carbs that you should cut down on and this will drive your body into fat burning mode which is what you want it to do to see your fast diet work well…  What should be eaten then?   Real food that’s not processed – meat, fish, eggs, vegetables and salads…  Simple but very good, nutritious food…

Then we get onto the advice about eating (or not eating) fat.  Have you noticed that low fat foods are heavy on the sugar?  So most of them are going to encourage you to gain weight not lose it!

Did you think that fat in food is bad?  Yes, as do most people, but it’s wrong…  Real fat isn’t bad.  It makes you feel full and  is also vital for your body – you need fat for vitamins that are essential for your health.   In a 4 ounce pork chop there’s only 2.3 grams of unsaturated fat and 1.5 grams of saturated fat.

It’s the man made fats that are in processed foods that are bad for you…  That’s the fat you should be avoiding like the plague…  Awful stuff!

So, your fast diet weight loss isn’t just about cutting down calories…
